Our church has been holding an annual Vacation Bible School for many years. The VBS is generally held every June and runs for six days, Sunday through Friday. Children are able to learn about God through Bible stories, exciting music, hands on science experiments and crafts, themed snacks, and more! Our volunteers look forward each year to plan the VBS and love being able to help children discover a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. For many years, we have used Cokesbury’s VBS kits, but in 2018, we will be using the kit from Answers in Genesis.
VBS begins and ends with a time together for all the children and volunteers to introduce and review the main theme of the night. This is done in the form of a skit with puppets and a volunteer leader. The kids (and adults!) love to see the puppet skit as they learn and laugh along with the performers.
Every year our music leader chooses fun songs from our VBS to teach the children and perform on the night of our VBS program. The kids learn to sing and dance to songs that are not only catchy and fun, but also help the kids to remember what they’ve learned in VBS each year.
Bible Story Time
Since 2017, we have held three levels of Bible story time with the children who attend our VBS. After music time, our littlest students head to the preschool class to have Bible stories and activities geared for their age group. Our middle group’s Bible story time is a drama performed by our volunteers with activities that help reinforce the lesson and have the children work together. Our oldest students have a Sunday school style class where they can learn more in depth about the Bible lesson and have activities to help them understand the lesson more and apply it to their lives.
Craft / Snack / Game Time
After Bible story time, our groups attend three different activity stations. Students get to make fun themed crafts, play outdoor games, and have snack time with lots of cool treats.
Right before closing time, students get to observe a science experiment that helps to reinforce the lesson of the night. In some of the experiments, the students may even be able to get involved in a hands on way.
