Phelps Chapel United Methodist Church
From the Pastor’s Desk:
Advent is a time of anticipation and preparation. For the four weeks leading up to Christmas that anticipation and excitement should increase more with each passing day as we remember the time leading up to Christ’s birth. If it is that for us can you begin to imagine what it must have been like for Mary and Joseph?
We tend to sanitize and gloss over many historical realities. First we must remember that Mary was 13-14 years of age who at the onset of her pregnancy was an unwed mother to be. If that brings a level of questionable glances from the community in her day it could well mean a death sentence since such activity warranted a stoning in the center of town. If we get past this then we have a pregnancy that is nearing its end so at nine months pregnant I know of few women out there that would like to travel for five days and cross 90 miles of rough ground. You know that ice cream and pickles just would not keep, I doubt they had a Yeti.
We need to be reminded that Jesus was both 100% Man and 100% God. At no point did He not speak a world into existence but rather he chose rather to respond in human form. He did this for you! He did this for us! That moment is what we remember and celebrate at Christmas lest that fact get lost in the hustle and bustle of this world.
A new year brings with it new adventures. We are excited about the prospect of walking into those adventures with you. As we seek God’s Will we must understand that each of us have one day to live, that day is today. God will handle whatever tomorrow might bring, just hold on!
We have a YouTube page and hopefully a Tik-Tok I think it is called where I will post oddball and sometimes informational material and keep your eye on other social media platforms. Remember to ask your servers if you can pray for them when you say Grace. Our reason for sucking wind each day is to love God and our neighbor, the greatest way to do both is to share the Gospel wherever and whenever we can.
Hey, know Darlene and I love you but God loves you more. Merry Christmas
